2.4.7 released 4 April 2024, latest 2.4.7.
Magento 2.4.7 is currently supported.
What changed
Magento 2.4.7 is primarily a platform-compatibility, security, and quality-fix release relative to the preceding line. It adds compatibility with PHP 8.3 and updates the supported infrastructure stack, including newer RabbitMQ, Redis, Varnish, OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, and Composer versions. It also delivers fixes across core storefront, administration, APIs, GraphQL, indexing, catalog, checkout, payments, and security-related behavior. The exact feature set differs between Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce, so teams using Adobe Commerce should review the edition-specific release notes as well as the shared Magento changes.
What staying costs
Remaining on Magento 2.4.7 is a supported operating choice, but it means not receiving the platform support additions, defect corrections, security hardening, and API or storefront improvements introduced in later lines. The immediate exposure depends heavily on the deployed patch level: an unpatched 2.4.7 installation can miss fixes that are available for the same minor line. Over time, extension vendors, payment providers, hosting platforms, PHP runtimes, search services, and browser-dependent integrations may concentrate their testing on newer Magento versions. Deferring the move can therefore increase the eventual upgrade scope, particularly where custom modules depend on deprecated framework behavior or tightly coupled third-party packages.
What to do
First, record the deployed edition, exact 2.4.7 patch level, PHP version, Composer version, search engine, cache, queue service, database, themes, extensions, and external integrations. Apply the current vendor-issued patch appropriate to the 2.4.7 line if the store is not already on it. Then select a newer supported Magento target and obtain compatibility statements from every extension, theme, payment provider, ERP, PIM, tax service, and fulfillment integration. Build a production-like upgrade environment, align its PHP and service versions with the target requirements, and resolve Composer dependency conflicts without modifying core code. Rehearse the upgrade and test customer login, catalog browsing and search, cart and checkout, payment callbacks, order management, admin workflows, REST and GraphQL clients, cron jobs, consumers, indexing, caching, and asynchronous integrations. Deploy only with verified backups, a rollback procedure, monitoring for checkout and queue failures, and a post-deployment reindex and cache-validation plan.
