MySQL 9.5

MySQL 9.5 is the innovation-release successor to MySQL 9.4, not a long-term-support line. Relative to 9.4, it advances the MySQL code base with the feature work, behavior changes, and defect fixes incorporated for the 9.5 series. As with other innovation releases, teams should treat an upgrade as a version change requiring compatibility testing rather than as a routine patch deployment.

MySQL 9.5 has reached end of life, so the vendor no longer provides fixes or support for this cycle. Remaining on it leaves newly identified security issues, correctness defects, and compatibility problems uncorrected in the 9.5 line. The operational risk increases as operating systems, libraries, drivers, backup tools, monitoring agents, and managed-service integrations move toward currently supported MySQL releases. An unsupported production database can also complicate incident response, audits, and escalation with vendors.

Choose a currently supported MySQL target release, with a long-term-support release as the usual default for production workloads that prioritize upgrade stability. Read the release notes and upgrade documentation for every version boundary between 9.5 and the selected target, paying particular attention to removed features, changed defaults, authentication, SQL behavior, replication, character sets, and configuration variables. Build a production-like test environment, restore a representative backup or clone, and rehearse the upgrade and rollback plan. Run application regression tests, validate query plans and performance, test backup and recovery, and verify replication or high-availability behavior before scheduling production migration. Keep tested backups and a documented recovery procedure until the upgraded environment is stable.
